Did you know that it can be worth 1/2 a billion dollars? well perhaps there's a few cents in promoting them. Smart dudes some of these folks, aren't they?
Slide CEO Max Levchin says:
Widgets have come a long way since they first appeared on social networks with invitations to scribble messages to friends or get their attention with a virtual "poke." Here's how Slide uses widgets on Facebook to carry branded ads.
1. Superpoke
Choose from dozens of preprogrammed actions - throw an elf, wish a happy St. Patrick's Day, give a tongue-lashing - to flirt, annoy, or otherwise interact with your friends. Poke a friend with a ... ummm ... McDonald's trophy.
2. Funwall
Write on your friends' virtual "walls," or send them posters, art, or links to online videos. Post a trailer for a TLC broadcast that you think your friends should watch.
3. Skins for Top Friends or slide shows
Top Friends lets you flag the favorite members of your social network; slide shows arrange your photos. Download a graphic skin to decorate these applications. Dress up your picture frames with a colorful Palm logo.
Let's see what widgets do for US.
