According to the New York Times
Mr. McCulloch had planned to power the car with a 3-cylinder, 6-piston, 2-stroke internal-combustion engine, with a crankshaft at each side and combustion chambers in the middle of the cylinders. That power plant was abandoned in favor of a steam engine.
