The Boston Herals reports that Edmunds.com editor Karl Brauer writes about new cars for a living, but when it comes to purchasing a vehicle of his own, he buys used.
“A new car’s depreciation factor is huge to me,” said Brauer, Edmunds’ editor at large. “I hate the idea that you lose 40 percent of a new car’s value in the first two or three years.”
Here’s a look at 1of Edmunds.com top 2010 used-car picks. Prices shown are what you can expect to pay at a dealership:
Small sedan
2003-08 Hyundai Elantra. Brauer said used Elantras sell for low prices that “don’t really reflect the car’s strength and durability over time. A used Honda or Toyota will be more expensive, but won’t have any functional advantage over an Elantra.” (Price: $4,451 to $12,850)
Sorry about all the delays, we're flat chat down on the farm
