Picnic as they say "dance" in the old fashioned way.
April 21st 2008 12:20
I've had a really smashing weekend, really top stuff. It was all arranged by Mother and some of the other ladies and we had a theme which took us back to an earlier period in time when picnics were held on spacious lawns and there were boats on the water for us and we all went off in small groups, the men doing the rowing and the lovely ladies just sitting back in the boats.
They had the old style music playing on old fashioned gramophones which they'd managed to get from somewhere which played the old type of records made before vinyl was introduced. The music did sound kind of scratchy and they had loud speakers there to act as amplifiers.
We all got a bit typsy with sparkling wine and champagne and our picnic was served to us by waiters dressed in the old fashioned way.
The feast was spread out on the lawns and it was just as well it was a good day.
The men wore light linen pants and blazers and the girls ankle length dresses and skirts and carried parasols. The guys wore straw boaters.
Of course there was a lot of mixing between the sexes helped along by a rather too ample supply of alcohol. But for matchmaking the day was just perfect.
By the end of it I had three more names to add to my list of selections for the future Mrs. Fobbs, so it was all rather exciting really.
I have been pleasantly surprised to learn just how many lovely looking young women are still available, at least I shall not be stuck with a drone, for want of anything else being available.
So my sojourn in old Mother England is going remarkably well and I am right in the middle of things right now and Mother is frightfully happy with me, looking forward to her first grandchild.
It's going to get quite tough over the next few months as I am expected to announce my engagement early August giving time for the arrnagement of the sumptuous nuptials my the end of October, when I shall cease to be a bachelor.
I guess all good things must come to an end and it will be serious work from now on.
It's just as well I have the family fortune there to help me along my way.
From that point of view nothing much will change.
I'll try to keep up with my posting but it will be a bit difficult, secreting myself in the small hours with my subversive activities, it really would not do for Mother to find out.
Time is galloping and already it is the end of another day and I'm now into the second week of my wee holiday, as the Scottish would say.
