Honda with luggage - to go!

Once home on Friday evening, I shoved a huge duffle bag filled with dirty laundry; a medium-sized Pelican case with my pertinent photography gear; a small gym bag; and the girlfriend's hard plastic Chihuahua kennel (with accessory bag) into the rear compartment.

Okay, so 25.7 cubic-feet with the rear seats up isn't exactly colossal, but it is relatively generous, especially when you consider the Accord sedan's trunk is 14.0 cubic-feet. If I put the seats down, 51.3-cu-ft would have awaited all of my personal belongings. And yes, I said Chihuahua.

The next day I shuttled a few family members to and from the mall. They loved the rear seat room, as well as the cushy soft leather. I did, however, take issue with the interior's color: it's mostly wrapped in tan-cream leather that's ripe for smudging and discoloration. Blemishes were always on my mind with people and stuff in tow. After a day of driving, there was also evidence of occupation along the lower quarter of each door. Dirty shoes love to rub on this part of the Crosstour.

The Honda proved very enjoyable around the city. Steering is electronically assisted, so communication with the road wasn't spectacular. Yet, the helm behaved smoothly, making it helpful when trying to maneuver the long nose in tight parking lots.

The standard powerplant -- a 3.5-liter V-6 with i-VTEC -- performed brilliantly when shuffling in town, but once full throttle was called upon for quick passing or uphill maneuvers, the mill, along with its five-speed automatic, disappointed somewhat. Unless pegged high into the rev range, the powertrain struggled a bit to get the 4070-pound crossover moving. Rearward visibility also pretty much stinks given the horizontally split rear window and gradually rising bow-to-stern beltline.

Even so, when I'm in need of a roomy, comfortable, five-seater with heaps of cargo capacity, I'll be sure to sign this Honda out.
