Ford and Chrysler and the Canadians
August 7th 2010 23:46
Ford and Chrysler both saw minor gains in the US market from July 2009 to July 2010 while General Motors saw a market-leading growth in the domestic market. However, our neighbors to the north have continued to build their passion for American vehicles as Chrysler and Ford both turns in banner months in July 2010.
Ford Motor Company of Canada finished the month of July 2010 as the bestselling automaker in the entire Canadian market posting their best July since 1979 with 27,203 units sold. The Ford trucks lead the way, accounting for almost 20,000 units sold and the Ford cars saw a gain of 46% over last July in moving 7,457 vehicles. Car sales were lead by the Fusion, Focus and Taurus but the Transit Connect and Lincoln lineup helped Ford achieve the strong monthly sales figures.
Chrysler also had a strong month in the Canadian market, sending almost 23,000 vehicles off the lots for a year over year increase of 40%. The bestseller from Chrysler was the Ram pickup with 6,436 trucks sold followed by the Grand Caravan with 6,083 of the popular minivan reaching the consumer. Both of these vehicles set all-time monthly sales records in July and for the 8th straight month Chrysler has seen year over year sales growth.
As the Big 3 and the rest of Detroit climb out of the hole created by the recession, it is important for the automakers to thrive in non-domestic markets. The fact that Chrysler continues to grow and Ford leads all brands sold in Canada shows that the American automakers are getting back on track and selling vehicles that are desired not just in the US – but around the world.
