fobzy's thoughts on Collectibles ( and Ebay)
May 15th 2008 23:54
You know all sorts of people become collectors and there seems to be a bit of money in it.
You know me, always looking for ways of making "a bit on the side" and I'm talking money, you know, fobzy is a very proper person, one of the aristocracy you know, despite my doubtful parentage, well, at least on my father's side, that is.
Mother was belting on about antiques this morning and I was careful to pay attention as she is quite determined to train me thoroughly for my role as "Squire", and quite rightly so, but learning to ride a horse, well, that's just plain agony, and this morning I am going to get my old bicycle out and see if she likes the green power of that.
Everyday I am learning things but at the end of the day I get to sneak off and do a little blogging, just waiting for the bucks to role in to support my gambling habits, after all, if it is truly independently earned, Mother can hardly complain if I blow it all at the races, can she?
What I have been noticing is the very wide range of collectible items, from postage stamps and comic books to religious icons and even Fobs, get it?, Fobs, yes Fob Watches and I certainly have the right name for that one.
But, now, there is an even wider market for such things, commonly known as Ebay, although why anyone would want to part with their money to buy 'unseen' things is a bit lost on me.
And to name just a few more, many of which are auctioned at the well established Auction Houses you may be interested in such things as a "Disney Collection" including artist signed limited lithographs and various other Disney collectibles. A Period English Chippendale slant front desk with provenance or an exceptional 19th century cottage painted desk and chest all await your dollars. Renaissance revival sitting chairs, gothic chair, c.1890 tiger oak partners desk, tiger oak buffet, and so the list goes on.
You can even collect individual tiles from English fireplaces, all these things seem to be quite fascinating and if you can't patronize the well-established houses do try that internet friendly little Ebay.
Do you know anyone who has actually bought/sold such things on Ebay, I don't, but the aristocracy doesn't work that way.
However, from old prints, the finest bone china and lots of other little trinkets the www is often the way to go with the young being particularly addicted.
From the very short look I've had at Ebay, it seems it is quite difficult to navigate and find one's way.
But the world is not going to go backwards, is it?
So, if you have any thoughts on Ebay at all please let me know.

I have also sold a lot of stuff on eBay. The business I run on it is green/eviro-friendly to boot.
You can find almost anything you want there!

I am so sorry I've been neglecting you. *big hugs* and thank you for reminding me to come by
The most I've made from eBay was the Opening and Closing ceremony programs of the Sydney Olympics at AU$50 each. I got them for free as a volunteer so I didn't lose anything
eBay is not going too well now that they are putting all sorts of limitations on selling and buying....

And there's Amy, managing to turn a fast buck with her programs, knows all about Ebay, too, clever little thing, isn't she?
AND we have the world of BUSINESS here, I really am starting to make it with this wretched blogging, my God just when's the money coming rolling in?
See you all soon.
