Red Coca Cola trucks turn GREEN
September 22nd 2008 08:38
Yes, you hear it right, Coca Cola is going green with hybrid trucks.
Perhaps there is hope for the world yet.
This is, of course, in the US, I don't know what they are doing elsewhere but hybrid trucks are becoming all the go, not so interesting as a racey sports but even car geeks have a social conscience, don't they?
Anyway, "The hybrid trucks use Eaton's "parallel-type", diesel-electric hybrid architecture with its UltraShift auto box. It incorporates an electric motor/generator between the output of an automated clutch and input of the transmission. The system also feature regenerative braking with energy stored in the batteries. And when electric torque is blended with engine torque, the stored energy is used to improve fuel economy and vehicle performance for a given speed or to operate the vehicle with electric power only. And who says the Americans aren't going green?"
Watch for more on hybrid trucks, you can go without speed for a day or so, can't you?

How strange, when you think about it, that the hybrid vehicles are being employed to deliver a completely non-essential product.
