Testing the Chevrolet Volt
November 21st 2009 07:11
G.M. has tried to minimize the generator's presence at this stage of Volt's development -- production is still nine months away. But the sound of the generator running at steady highway speeds is something Volt owners, and others who appreciate the flexibility and efficiency of this type of hybrid system, may have to accept.
One critical element of the Chevrolet Volt's performance will be how it drives after its electric power supply is depleted.
Hybrid's need to measure up from several perspectives but don't worry with 9 months to go you can't get one yet
Feedback from the steering wheel suggests calibrations intended to give a sporty feel. Unlike many EVs, including Tesla's Roadster, there is no audible gear whine from the Volt's electric drive.
That's just an introduction from the New York Times but it is well worth thinking about for those wha are prepared to take the plunge to a hybrid.
It's always a good idea to check how it feels behind the wheel, don't you think?
