Petersen Automotive Museum, Los Angeles
A tidy 300,000 square feet of exhibits and galleries with more than 150 rare and classic racecars, vintage motorcycles, concept cars and celebrity and movie cars. The Discovery Center has an "interactive hands-on learning center" for kids - which sounds a little too much like high school shop class. Best-named exhibit: "What Were They Thinking? Misfits of Motordom," which includes a 1958 Edsel and the 1964 Amphicar. 6060 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles. (323) 930-2277. www.petersen.org. $3-$10, children younger than 5 free.
