Is this the fastest production car?
July 6th 2008 23:23
There are, of course, faster concept cars but this BMW is being touted as the fastest on the road, and although it is classed as a 2009 car, it is availlable now.
Speed does seem to be the parameter many seek in expensive cars, and I don't know whether the BMW has any challengers to its claims.
The new M3 has a new lighter V8. The M3 sports has a tuned suspension, a six speed manual transmission and a carbon fiber roof. Deemed competition for the Audi RS5Lexus IS-F and Mercedes CLK 63 AMG.
We'll have a look at those another day.
The power comes from a new 4.0 liter V8 producing 420 hp and 295 lb-ft at 3,900 rpm.
Like other high-revving M-series cars, the the new BMW M3 redline is 8,300 rpm.
BMW claims the new engine as the lightest V8 in the world.
But just for the fun of it, let's have a look at something else as well.
GM has released more information on the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 supercar – 638hp (476kW) and 819Nm (604lb-ft) - and this video shows the potential of the car.
GM hasn’t released the top speed rating for the ZR1 but here we see it reach 205mph (330km/h).
So get behind the wheel in this video and see how it feels to speed.
Nice to go for a spin, don't you think?
